Welcome to your guide to Ouarzazate, Morocco
A former oasis on the route of the trans-Saharan caravan trains, the town of Ouarzazate was built during the time of the French protectorate when a garrison, an administrative centre and a customs post were established there. Situated on the threshold of the desert, the town occupies a central position between the Draâ, Ziz and Dadès valleys, also known as the Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs.
These days Ouarzazate owes its fame to its film studios and the breathtaking local scenery. The town is also a good place to break a journey around the Deep South of Morocco, close to the famous Kasbah Aït ben Haddou and a few kilometres from the Kasbah of Taourirt and the picturesque Flint oasis. There are also the fabulous Skoura palm tree forests and numerous luxury guesthouses on the edge of Ouarzazate’s artificial lake.
